Albus Cavus: What do you do in San Francisco?
Chor Boogie: I am a full time artist in San Francisco and I'm grateful for that.
AC: In today world, there are not so many professional artists of your age. It's great to see that your talent and hard work are valued like that.
CB: I’ve been an artist since I was 5 years old and started aerosol around the age of 11. Once you grow up and get to understand yourself you take things less seriously. Your destiny - if you believe in it - will manifest and things will fall right in place... I love this stage of my life and it is limitless. People love my work because I love it and it shows. My work is my life.
AC: Right before the tour you are traveling to China. What is that about?
CB: I'm going to China to paint in a festival with 5 other artists whose primary medium is chalk. I'm the only one representing aerosol artists world wide. Basically, it's an introduction to the Olympics sponsored by a shopping mall in Xi'an China, which in turn may be having me run a little late for the tour.
AC: You'll catch up with us... Is your schedule so tight these days? When do you slow down and just turn off and fly with some muses?
CB: I believe in patience. It’s the key to survival and in this stage and lesson in my life I have to keep it moving. I make my own schedule so there is downtime and what is better to do on downtime then paint more. Since I met my young queen it’s been giving me a little balance. However, when the people need art, I have to teach them...
AC: When you worked with Playboy, how was Hugh Hefner? Is he the same in person as he appears in his show?
CB: Honestly, I couldn't tell you about Heff. Though he's up there in age. The dude is on some covert operations mission. You can't touch him but I tell you, the bunnies are the truth and the people who organized the deal are freeeessshhh. Much thanks to them. As far as the painting goes I'm sure its hanging at the "Girls Next Door" mansion - my sources tell me.
AC: What other interesting places is your work at?
CB: It’s all over North America and soon to be international. As far as homes and canvas works within the past 5 years; the late Ol’ Dirty's mother has a portrait of her son in collection. Others include Nas, Lady Sovereign, Google, Helio, Hugh Heffner, the Childrens Museum of San Diego and M.O.C.A of San Diego (We won the best show of the year) and on April 20th Jay-Z. The ones who have showed some love are Rage Against the Machine and Prince. Now I’m going for the world.
AC: You have fun way to handle the can... What is that all about?
CB: Don't sweat the technique. See, if you can follow it I encourage the masses to learn. Come on, I'm the only one who has transcended this technique in the world and is running with it. Smell my aroma, it's a complicated technique. Cats back in the day used to do it for minor effects in their fill-ins but I paint whole faces and anything on a smaller scale. I improved the technique through trial and error. The Most High blessed me with it to show the world how it's done. This separates me from all writers because I'm bringing something new to the game. If others buckle down and stop being so ego-tunnel-vision
and think outside the box they can all contribute to taking their techniques to the next level and teach others... I just hope cats around the world just respect where and who it comes from. This technique is called. "Control" or "The upside down technique" or "The inverted conversion perversion."
AC: What's next?
CB: I'm getting married to my young queen and have some seeds and support my self and a family with what I love to do. But as far as painting goes, some workshops lined up at the Children's Museum - anything for the youth. Meantime I'll travel worldwide, paint and get paid for it. Also I'm launching my BoogieBird series and trying to get a movie deal out of it. Have more gallery/museum shows and the list goes on. Reason being my heart is in what I believe in and that's the truth.
AC: Congratulations on your upcoming marriage. Will it slow you down?
CB: It hasn't so far. She’s very understanding and she has her own thing going on talent wise. Making moves as well. So as long as there is balance I don’t see a problem and we put our hearts into our relationship as well as our work, family, selves in a reasonable order.
AC: BoogieBird is your little character in most of your pieces... What is the movie going to be like?
CB: This one is for the youth and all ages as well. But mainly for the kids to learn lessons through laughter. It will be a 3D animation. I have a prototype out as far as toys go and I broke a Guinness world record by painting them on 2 by 2 inch canvases. The smallest painting done with aerosol. Then will come the website and clothing line...
AC: Favorite artists, inspiring people, places?
CB: The Most High of the universe, me, myself and I. My fam, my queen, Michelangelo, Salvador Dali, Rembrandt, Klimpt, Vulcan, Apex, Phase2, Pose2. As places go, the whole world and every other human out there.
